Man and Woman—Enemies?

Man and Woman—Enemies? In earlier articles I reviewed the history and general idea of traditional feminism versus feminity (see: https://www.ldsdimension.com/articles/feminism-versus-masculinity-110/ and https://www.ldsdimension.com/articles/valuing-femininity-114/). In short, the original idea of 1970s feminism was supposed to be about equality, women being treated respectfully, and women not being treated as sex objects. However, modern feminism today has morphed away from many of these early ideals into obsessive drives for power, control, and more opportunities for women, generally at the expense of men. In this quest, modern current feminism often paints and blames men for…pretty much everything. Men are commonly framed by today’s feminism as toxic, abusive, childlike, rapists, buffoons, idiots, etc. In response to the current anti-male climate, a counter movement has evolved loosely referred to as being “red pill” which can be problematic as well. The red pill movement is mostly comprised of men and serves to offer information and resistance against current feminist mistreatment of men. For more information about the “red pill movement”, see: https://incels.wiki/w/Redpill.

Man and Woman: Meant to Be Loving Partners:

Man and woman—made for each other: Numerous scriptures point out how men and women were literally created to be with one another, with their gender differences acting as a positive compliment:

And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him ban help meet for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
--Genesis 2: 18, 21-24

Gender is eternal and man and woman have different God-given roles; men and women are to support each other in these roles:

…marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.

All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.

The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.

Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners.
--The Family: A Proclamation to the World

Latter day gender antagonism—fulfilment of prophesy: Isaiah prophesied of this condition being common in the last days:

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!
--Isaiah 5:20, 21, 23

In addition we learn the following latter day problems from letters Paul wrote to Timothy:

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
I Timothy 4:1-4

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
--2 Timothy 3:1-7

Final Thoughts:

Man and woman were created to be together and are meant to be together. Please do not buy into the idea that men and women are enemies of each other. We have some differences from each other, but this is good and by design. Men and women bring out the best from each other when relationships are based on love, support, and understanding. Just remember that “…neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.”—1 Corinthians 11:1.
